Tenth Annual ONE-PS Picnic & Community Expo March 25, 2017 in Ruth Hardy Park
Come celebrate Palm Springs neighborhoods and many of the wonderful things that make our City like no place else, when the Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs (ONE-PS) hosts its ninth annual neighborhood Picnic & Community Expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25, in Ruth Hardy Park.
Last year more than 900 people attended the popular picnic which is free to residents living within the City’s 43 organized neighborhoods as well as to other Palm Springs residents interested in organizing their neighborhoods.
Lunch will be catered and paid for, in part, by the sponsors participating in the event.
Back by popular demand this year will be the Bark in the Park, Pooch Parade and Costume Contest. Registration for the dog costume contest begins at noon with the pooch parade at 12:30 and judging at 12:45 p.m. Dogs will be decked out trying to take home the prize for most original, cutest or funniest.
Come see what is offered at more than 55 booths at the Expo including The BUZZ trolley, Boys & Girls Club, Desert Water Agency, Revivals/Desert AIDS Project, Palm Springs Hospitality Association, Main Street, USO, Mizell Senior Center, Safe Schools Desert Cities, The LGBT Center of the Desert, Palm Springs Pride, the CV Link plus many more. The Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter will bring plenty of adorable adoptables to the picnic again this year.
Show your enthusiasm for a bicycle-friendly Palm Springs by riding your bike to the picnic. There will be bike racks where you can lock your bike while you enjoy the picnic and expo. If your bike isn’t registered, stop by the Palm Springs Police Department’s booth and have that done.
Several City Departments will participate including Parks and Recreation with face painting for the kids and other fun things. The Library will be there and the City’s Office of Sustainability will have alpacas at its booth highlighting ecotourism. There will be a fire engine on display along with the City’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) vehicle. The Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue will bring several rescue vehicles, equipment and two rescue quads and the Police Department’s Mounted Enforcement Unit will bring two horses. Among the exhibits this year will be the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) crash car trailer -- a DWI mobile display.
Additionally, nine of the City’s neighborhood organizations will have booths at this year’s Expo, plus the ONE-PS booth with a display of the popular neighborhood identification “blade” signs seen throughout the City.
Bring the kids, bring the dogs (on a leash, of course) and join us for lunch and plenty of entertainment featuring the Flowbox stilt walker troupe, a drum circle, DJ and the Fire Department’s mascot Sparky.
The 2017 ONE-PS Picnic & Community Expo Committee is co-chaired by Joy Meredith and April Gunkel along with Bob Farran. For more information about this year’s ONE-PS Picnic and Community Expo, please call 760-323-8255.
