Building Permit

Building permits are required to erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish all structures, commercial and residential, in the City of Palm Springs. This includes everything from new building construction to fences, fireplaces, pools, window change-outs, water heater replacements and signs. Once a complete set of plans for your project has been approved by the City Building & Safety Department, a building permit will be issued for your project. Additional permits may be required depending on the nature of the work. Most frequent of those required are:

  • Electrical permits are required for all new electrical wiring, electric service equipment installation, relocations and change outs, etc.
  • Mechanical permits are required for the replacement, repair or alteration of mechanical systems. This includes such items as commercial hoods, evaporative coolers, furnaces and heating and air conditioning equipment, etc.
  • Plumbing permits are required for all plumbing related work including sewer connections, septic system installations and repairs, gas lines, water and sewer lines, water heater replacement, etc.
